Austin to New Orleans

  • 56 – Pontchartrain Landing RV Park. Nice park facing canal. Industrial area. About 15-30 minutes from French Quarter. Graham arrives from Wagner. Joanne visited with us for five nights. Visited brewery across canal Royal Brewing – loved Angel and other patrons. Beignets @ Cafe Du Monde and Cafe Beignets. Mother’s Day river cruise (mix-up over brunch tickets), lunch @ Original Pierre Masperos. Liked restaurants on Magazine Street – Bulldog and Rum House. Drinking near Garden District: Courtyard Brewery, Bakery Bar and Barrel Proof. Dinner and drinking near Frenchmen Street: Spotted Cat and The Maison. Listened to iconic music @ Preservation Hall – had dinner @ Oceana Grill with drinks @ Pat O’Brians. Joanne treated us with dinner @ Harrah’s steakhouse. Went on swamp tour. Need to visit Melba’s Po Boy next visit. Dixie RV installed tow-hitch on Jeep from Subaru. Had to go back to Dixie RV since our tow cable needed to be replaced. Dixie RV service and tech guys did a great job.
  • 55 – Frenchmen’s Wilderness RV Park. Really nice park east of Breaux Bridge / Henderson. Listened to several bands @ the annual Crawfish festival in Breaux Bridge – locals taught John how to each 5-lbs of local Crawfish. Fresh bread @ Champagne bakery. Fresh Boudin @ Charlie T’s meat market. Listened to zydeco music and watched locals dance @
    La Poussiere.
  • 54 – Sam Houston Jones State Park. Very cool park surrounded by a river and swamp. Incredibly low thunderstorm our 2nd night. Drove the Creole road tour, visited Holly Beach where hurricane Rita hit and had lunch near the town of Cameron. Had local beers and pupus @ Rikenjaks – Rio could visit – great Boudin. Listened to two bands @ the annual Pirates festival but dogs were not allowed.
  • 53 – Sand Piper RV Resort. Small place. Right next to Stewart Beach and Rio could visit the beach on leash. Visited Johnson Space Center and got to see a lot very cools things – our youngest Son will be an intern this summer for NASA @ JSC! Visited Galveston State Park and walked in the marsh and toured some of the local neighborhoods along the way. Went to dinner @ The Spot – popular place, but it more of a drinking place – had a lot of fried seafood. Visited the Strand district where the cruise ships depart.
