2021 – Florida to Staten Island

200 – Turkey Swamp Park. Nice county park. Large half-circle PT sites. 30-amp, water was about 45′ from where we parked the 2nd time. Dump station available. Did not use laundry nor showers. Lots of privacy. Lots of trees and vegetation. Did not try to setup Dish. Cell service was okay, but could not stream for very long. Antenna did not work. Big lake and lots of trails in the park. Roads were dirt and a little tight with trees hugging roads and sites. Stayed first and last nights at the campground. Stayed 3-nights at an AirBnB on Bay St near the ferry building – street parking was challenging – interesting street vibe nearby . Pickup up our youngest son @ EWR. Went into Brooklyn for great steaks @ Peter Luger Steakhouse. Did not some site seeing and got to experience the subway system again. 198 – American Heritage. Nice campground. Large sites. Grass. Lots of trees. Some sites had nice pavers and landscaping and patio furniture. Nice bathhouse. Dish and cell service were good. Really enjoyed Colonial Williamsburg. Took Rio for a walk, then took the new e-bikes for a long tour of the area. Had snacks and drinks @ The Hound’s Tale. Went for car ride to Jamestown – had local BBQ @ food truck and beer @ Billsburg Brewery (did not want to stay for live band). Then went to Yorktown and went to Mobjack Bay Roasters and Petite Cafe – listened to couple singing. It was a little warm.

197 – Raleigh Oaks RV Resort and Cottages. Nice campground. Long PT sites. Bathhouse was nice. No trees or landscaping. Dish and cell service were good. Had a hitch installed @ U-Haul near Durham. Lucky to find gas nearby. Had dinner with with our friend Paul at City BBQ in NE Raleigh – went to the wrong restaurant – had a really good time. Also had dinner with Jill and Bill – family friends from Saratoga. Visited their house for pupus and they took us to a really nice dinner at a local cafe called Smokestacks Cafe. Coffee and scones @ Morning Times – salad next door @ The Raleigh Times Bar. Walked around town, visited NC State, Moore Square, City Market and Lake Johnson Park.

196 – The Barnyard RV Park. Okay campground. Fairly basic. Bathhouse and laundry was okay. PT site. Sporadic trees. No landscaping. Dish was good. Cell service was good. Went on canoe trip through Congaree National Park – only two couples on the tour. The guide was was knowledgeable and informative. Suzanne found a bike store (Cycle Center) in Columbia that had e-bikes in stock. We bought the e-bikes after the canoe trip and took the Motorhome into the city to pickup the e-bikes and the new bike rack. Fortunately, we filled up both the RV and Jeep with gas before arriving – major gas shortage hit the east coast.

195 – Myrtle Beach State Park. Okay site – 30 amps and water but no sewer – sites vary in size and degree of privacy. Lots of shade trees. Dish did not have any reception, antenna had six stations, cell good. Dogs allowed on beach during certain hours. They have a private pier. Lots of picnic and social areas. Went downtown – very beachy and touristy – like virginia beach and gulfshores. Visited Silver Creek Winery and ate dinner @ Waterfront Seafood Shack in Calabash NC – lots of wineries and seafood restaurants along the river. Went south to visit the Marsh Walk @ Murrells Islet – had coffee and walked the boardwalk – Rio not allowed at restaurants. Continued on to Pawleys Island – had drinks and snacks @ Quigley’s Pint & Plate. Walked Rio on beach a few times (before 10 am and after 5 pm between May and Sept). Bike week – so a lot of hogs and indian bikes in town and campground.

194 – Oak Plantation RV. Improved site with cement pad. Other sites are grass or dirt – and somewhat level. Okay showers – older and water was not that warm. Road noise in front and back. Visited King street on Saturday night – had drinks @ Cocktail Club (speak-easy) and had biscuits and coffee @ Carmella’s – a lot of young people at bars – dressed up. Visited the Sunday Market and the Charleston Pour House – great live band (Motown) – ate empanadas at food truck – bought a hand woven dog leash for Rio. Brief visit to the Angel Oak Tree – beautiful tree. Good walking tour with Two Sisters – BBQ dinner @ Rodney Scott’s afterwards. Visited Boone Hall plantation – good balance of plantation and life for slaves. Visited Shem Creek, Mt Pleasant and Isle of Palms – lots of beaches, restaurants and expensive homes – dinner @ Page’s Okra Grill – would like to go back to Obstinate Daughter. Good satellite signal. Cellular okay. Big town and a lot of traffic.

193 – St James Island County Park. Nice campground. Part of a larger county park including huge dog run on a lake, water park, fishing and boating area, et al. Nice back-in site with FHU. Site had some un-level spots. We had to use multiple jack pads for the jacks and left-front tire – did not look to see that front-left tire was hanging. Had to retract slides and manually re-level the Vista. Unfortunately, the driver seat was turned around to remove the Felix stuffing, the driver front slide jammed into the driver seat (upon extending a 2nd time), and the trim was deeply gouged – we also had to unbolt the driver seat from the pedestal to relieve pressure on the seat and the slide – dang! Spent a nice day @ the beach in Folly Island – early evening dinner @ Jack of Cups Saloon – a surprising good restaurant – Indian and veggie style food. Spent day in Charleston – walked the Battery, the Market and the French Quarter – had late snacks at a cafe which was okay. Went to the Barrell for live music and drinks – had great BBQ from a food truck – dozens of dogs off leash running around the courtyard of the pub.

192 – Skidaway State Park. Very nice campground in a heavily forested area. Sites a little rustic, but big. Half-circle PT site. Very large raised cement pad. Electric and water only. Bathhouse was okay. They have laundry. First night went to ‘Better Than Sex’ for exotic cocktails and very large and yummy desserts. Toured water front area – lunch @ Huey’s for southern creole food – parking only $1 per hour. Next day, we visited a bike shop for research, then walked around the major squares as enjoyed the weather and historical buildings. Ate lunch @ Crab Shack on the road out to Tybee Island – had a low boil plate while Suzanne had ribs with mustard sauce. Will need to come back to Savannah during one of their major events like St Paddy’s Day. Town was a lot more interesting being open, but would like to experience some of the live music.

191 – Hilton Head Motorcoach Resort. Beautiful resort for motorhomes only. Individually owned sites – expensive. Great landscaping. Had raised fire-pit with chairs, table with chairs, raised hammock, propane grill. Lots of amenities. Nice pool and bathhouse. Lots of rules. Local beaches are dog friendly – on leash between 10 am and 5 pm and off-leash otherwise. Harbor town requires day fee. Many private gated communities around. Major storm our last day, so missed out on going to Hudson’s for drinks and dinner – went to Hilton Head Brewing Co for drinks and snacks as it poured, thunder and lightening.
