Winter & Spring before Alaska

The road thru BC and beginning of YT was fairly good shape. Lots if curves and hills. Saw moose (mom and cub), bears, porcupines, canadian snow geese and bald eagles.

279 – Yukon Motel and RV Park. Right next to river and bridge. Beautiful valley views nearby. Sites were okay. Showers were not working due to frozen pipes. They did have a dump station but we did not use it. Saw a fox walking in the park.

278 – Baby Nugget RV Park. 30-amps and water only. On-site dump station. Sites were fairly long, but sloped and somewhat narrow. Over-night rest stay.

277 – Red Goat Lodge. Interesting lodge and RV park. We had nice lake views with ice that moved as it thawed and re-froze. WiFi at the lodge only. Our sites were 30-amps, but our site was really 20-amps and we kept blowing fuses and GFCI breakers. Our site did have running water – some sites still had frozen pipes. Daughter was helpful but the owner was rather grouchy.

276 – Merziadin Provencial Park. Pull-in site right on the lake. No utilities for our site, but Larry and June had 30-amps and water. Beautiful views of the lake. The RV Park in Stewart had closed down – selling the RV Park. Missed out on brown bears during happy hour – major mistake. Saw lots of black bears along the road. Went to Hyder and Stewart. Salmon Glacier was closed due to snow on roads – drove out to the valley as far as we could drive. Bear viewing platforms were empty due to early season for bear watching. Hyder was not really open. Got stuck in Stewart for a few hours due to road maintenance. Ate dinner @ Silverado Cafe & Pizza Parlour. Had to use ArrivCan app to get back into Canada.

275 – Witset RV Park. Indian reservation land. Nice long PT sites. Lots of room between sites. Did not use showers – no water. Incredible views. River with small gorge at bottom of hill. Wished we could have stayed longer. Enjoyed happy hour outside since it was sunny and warm.

274 – Mama Yeh RV Park. Rustic and rural campground. Owner was extremely friendly. Site were long, but really wet. Rain off and on. Had challenges finding a spot where we could let out Rio. Went to Costco in Prince George. Bought straps for the e-bikes at local store.

273 – Historic Hat Creek. Pull-in site. Huge horses in gated pastures next to site. Didn’t have time to see the historic ranch. Took Larry into town to look for brake fluid. Beautiful views along the way. Very steep section with switch backs. Snowed near the summit – we were a little nervous.

272 – Whistler RV Park and Campground. Pull-in sites. Incredible views. FHU. Bathhouse was okay. Wished we could have stayed longer.

271 – Peace Arch St. Arrived to get ready for Canada and Alaska trip. Sites were okay. Bathhouse was nice. 30-amp site with FHU. Celebrated Larry’s 55th birthday. Drove with Larry and his friend to pickup RV part in Chilliwack. Took our bikes to Stanley Park in Vancouver – drizzly weather. Went to Larry’s brother’s house for dinner – nice family. Visited Cresent beach – coffee and pastries @ Cresent Beach Coffee. Dinner @ Crispy Falafel. Dinner @ Afghan Kitchen – very good food. Got notice on 4th day that I was supposed to have been given mandatory random covid test kit @ border crossing. Several hours later – no progress. Scheduled online testing meeting the day we left for Whistler – they told me I could actually take a in-person covid test near the airport – lost about six hours of my time to go thru the process – my test was negative for covid.

270 – Lake Pleasant. Back again. Pull-in site on the lake. Great views of geese and ducks along with their babies. Graham flew up for the weekend. Great seeing Cameron, Meg and Lulu. Got to see their apartment. Mother’s Day @ St Michelle Winery with lunch @ Hollywood Tavern in Woodinville. Locurio Escape room – we solved the room with five or so minutes. Coffee @ Fremont Coffee Company. Dinner @ Djans Dining Thai Restaurant – drinks with Graham @ Korochka Tavern. Tried Dick’s drive-in – not too impressed. Nice visit at Washington Park Arboretum UW Botanic Gardens. Various errands at stores to get ready for trip. Ended up taking toll road on 520 – had hard time getting notice for the toll.

269 – Pheasant Hill RV Park. Back again. Met Mark and Deb @ xxx. Coffee and pastries @ St Honore Bakery. Ice cream @ Salt Lick creamery. Great dinner with Mark, Deb and Rose @ their house – French themed dinner! Left dish @ Mark and Debs for the summer.

268 – Back at Bill and Liz’s house in Sutherlin. Had a great time with Bill, Liz, Eva, Jay and Adriana. Bought steaks @ Crystal Creek Quality Meats for BBQ.

267 – Waiiaka RV. PT Site. Site barely fit RV and Jeep. Nice bath house. Car races at fairgrounds across the street.

266 – Vineyard RV Park. Common areas were nice. Bath house was not great. Great dog park. PT sites were tight – narrow and hard to get into and out of. Went to Reno for errands: shots, teeth cleaning, Jeep smog and oil change, replaced air filters and mail pickup. Ate @ Coffee Bar – great coffee, bowls were good, burritos not so good – like the ambiance better at the other location.

265 – Coyote Valley RV Park. Back again. Site #83. Had dinner @ Mike and Marsha’s house – Jimmie, Cat and Jerry joined us. Also, spent the afternoon on Mike and Marsha’s boat Grace – Graham was able to join us. Spent a day in Carmel area – wine tasting @ Bernardus winery in Carmel Valley. Took Rio to Carmel beach – enjoyed it – especially with Rio. Jimmie and Mike came to Morgan Hill for bike riding. Met Kit and Tom for dinner @ Luna Mexican Kitchen. Helped Graham get his car back from Fred’s Garage. Met with Rodney to get an update on our investments.

264 – Fairpark RV Park. Back again. Switched up our visit due to our eldest son’s visit for Easter. Great to have both of our sons visit with Suzanne’s parents. Visited Graham’s apartment. Took Suzanne’s parents to Black Star Pirate BBQ in Richmond. Visited Graham’s office in Richmond – had coffee @ Kaleidoscope Coffee. Lunch @ Maya Taqueria. Visited Wood Family Vineyards in Livermore – enjoyed the wines. Brought in food from Lotus Thai and China Paradise. Ramen restaurant near Graham’s apartment. Helped our youngest son with his car – took Subaru to Fred’s in Mountain View.

263 – Yanks RV Resort. Very nice park. Very windy. Visited Pinnacles National Park. East side was very busy with little parking, gave up and went to the west side. Went on longer trail that allowed us to climb down into the bat caves. Visited Hahn winery – very good experience. Ate @ Cocuyos Restaurant – good food.

262 – Sequoia RV & Resort Park. Got gas @ Sam’s Club – guess it was worth the drive and wait. Road to the campground was quite slow and windy. Nice oak hill country. Sites have wooden fences for privacy – would have like the weeds to have been cut back prior to arrival. We missed the sewer and water connections when we setup – a little embarrassing 🙂

261 – Orange Grove RV. Back again. Nice bathhouse. Good meal again @ El Buen Pastor food truck down the road.

260 – Catalina Spa & RV Resort. The site was rather short and slanted. Had to back up to the back wall to get the Vista level. Sandy with small pad. Really good views of the mountains. Nice pools and large hot tubs (mineral). Nice landscaping outside and throughout the park. Went back to Sherman’s Deli for a good brunch. Went to La Quinta for a walk and lunch @ La Quinta Brewing Co. Bought dates @ Sam Cobbs date farm on the way to south valley.

259 – Cocopah RV Resort. Native American golf resort. Arrived later than expected – drove to the Q Casino so John could get his crown installed – took almost 2-hours to get back across the border. Nice park homes, but the RV sites were mostly rocks with some landscaping. Nice green space for the dogs. The bathhouse was okay outside, but nice inside. The Had a nice lunch @ Garden Cafe. Also, had coffee @ Northend Coffeehouse. Got gas, propane and had the Vista weighed (19, 240).

258 – East Rincon RV Resort. Back again for two months this visit. Site 13. Facing south this year. Will go back to north loop next visit. Weather was a little windy, cold and warm for most of our visit. Lots of activities this year. Went to live music and dance – but decided not to attend similar activities due to lack of mask wearing in large groups. Had breakfast @ Santa Rosa Cafe where we had Indian Fry Bread. Lunch @ La Botana again (again with June & Larry). Ate breakfasts twice @ Prep and Pastry – awesome food. Good breakfast @ The Cup Cafe (in hotel) – sadly Rio had seizure after a nice walk (at Presta Coffee Roasters) . Had an okay breakfast (great garden @ ). Had coffee @ Preso Roasters, Presto Coffee Roasters, Crave, Viva Coffee and Black Rock Coffee (pup cups!). Went to Barrio Bread again – just simply awesome. Had Tres Leche cake for ourselves as well as June’s birthday from Dolce Pastello. Visited wineries near Elgin – Rune (good) and Rancho Rossa (wines were a little too tart, but the food and music was really good). Also, went wine tasting near Willcox (Zarpara had a few good wines; Coronado wines were good, but the food was awesome). Took Rio to Aqua Caliente park for a short hike before he got sick. Went back to Motosonora brewery – ran out of time to visit dragoon, 1912 and borderlands breweries in November. Had our colonoscopy exams 🙂

Rio. Vet in Indio wanted better antibiotics for Rio – got Dr Lou in Sierra Vista to submit prescription. Rio had another cluster of seizures on Feb 13th & 14th. First one was around 3:30 am on Sunday, then 1:30 pm at a coffee store. Both were milder than the cluster in Puerto Penasco. Started Rio on the Phenobarbital that Dr Lou got us in Yuma (took him off Gabapenctin). Adjustment was brutal – coordination, balance and general problems – took about 2.5 weeks for Rio adjust and become somewhat normal. Bought kurgo harness to help with ramp and walking. We got prescriptions for potassium bromide and Carprofin to last till next visit to Tucson. Refilled Phenobarbital till mid-July – Rio’s blood work was good and in the low range. Need to refill while we are in either Anchorage or Fairbanks.

Socialized with Greg & Tricia, Sam & Anne (and Marilyn), Janet & Ken, Neeva and Dave – enjoyed meeting these people. June and Larry came back for the 2nd month (their friend Shelly joined for a week). Need to meet up with Rodrick and Kevin next November. Our area had a lot of socializing, we decided not to participate with the group for several reasons. The park has distinct groups which take time to join.

Suzanne attended water classes and swam at local city pool. She was also introduced to the lapidary workshop where she made glass fused piece. John attended wood carving and wood shop groups – hand carved figures and turned bowls on lathes. Learned how to make cutting boards. Bought new tools. We both have fun and hope to do it again during next visit. Played shuffleboard, bocce ball and pickle-ball. Rode our e-bikes on the loop – unfortunately, had to stop due to problems with John’s battery.

Got Vista captain chairs and sofa reupholstered @ Panchos. Took Vista to Carl’s RV for yearly maintenance and to check before our Alaska ’22 trip. Took Vista to Jack Furriers for new tires – had to take back on the day we left since they forgot to put the valve stem extension back on – turned out okay given they re-engineered the outside tires for the better. Took John’s bike to Sabino Cycle who helped us get a replacement battery for the e-bike – got the e-bike back within 48-hours of departing.

257 – Springs at Borrego. Back again. Site #401. Suzanne got groceries and breakfast food for us before departing. Graham stayed behind with the jeep so that he could enjoy the resort’s gym. Got really good gas on the AZ side of the river in Needles, CA. The weather was rather stormy while Graham visited us. Graham was able to experience TKBs in Indio on his way to Borrego. The Slots were closed due to rock slide. We were able to get sufficient good weather to enjoy the Palm Canyon trail and Oasis. Went on ride to Fonts Point again. Had a good lunch @ the Red Ocotillo (first time). Took Graham to Julian but it was packed. Good coffee and muffins in Julian. Went to the Julian Hard Cider. Bought a whole pie @ the Julian Pie Company in Santa Ysabel – also good sandwiches @ Dudley’s Famous Bakery and Deli. Went on a nice hike near lunch. 2nd visit to Red Ocotillo was good, but portions small and expensive. Got coffee and baked goods @ Bighorn Fudge – will go back for fudge and thrifty ice cream. Bought veggies and fruit at local farmer’s market on Xmas circle. Saw Spencer’s Diner on DDD TV show – the pastrami and latkes were excellent (brisket was okay, pistachio cake was not good). Went back to TKB for awesome sandwiches. Went Julian for hike and wine tasting – lunch @ Quechos Elevated Mexican Eatery – Volcan Mountain Winery (wine was less acidic after it got some air) – bought frozen pie to share with June and Larry in Tucson. Went to dinner with Ann and Tom @ Rams Head Golf Resort – not as good as we heard. Dinner with Krista, Brent, Beth and Steve for very good dinner. Took Graham to airport in Palm Springs on the morning of Jan 1st – bagels @ Townie Bagels (want to visit Elroy’s Diner on next visit). Played pickle ball quite a bit until got hurt. Suzanne enjoyed water exercises. Went on organized hike with Krista and Brent for the resort. Suzanne took Ann and Tom to the Slots for a hike.

Suzanne took Lila for leg surgery to Sierra Vista AZ near Tucson – Coronado Vets (met Dr Lou @ Ironwood Vets in Yuma back in December). They were gone for two-nights. Surgery seems to be a success. Ironwood Vet could not help us with surgery. Suzanne got follow-up visit with Dr Clark in Indio to remove stitches.

Scheduled vaccination visit for Rio in Yucca Valley at Vetco – could not get appointment closer to Borrego. Took Rio back to Dr Clark for UTI (a little scary situation again).

256 – Las Vegas Oasis RV Resort. Back again. Another long day of driving – snow and weather was a little sketchy between Reno and Carson City, but okay once we got east onto I 95. Roads were wet, but temps were above freezing. Breakfast @ Truckee Bagels in south reno. Lousy lunch @ Beans and Brew in Tonopah. Got into Las Vegas around 4:30 or so and retrieved Vista from Storage. Graham helped us exchange stuff between Vista and Jeep – he also got dinner for us.
